5. Complete the Home Study

  • A licensing worker will visit you in your home
  • You and your family will be interviewed, at length

Your licensure application packet will be completed by the licensing social worker, and submitted to the
NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Regulatory and Licensing office for review.
Once the application packet has been received, it generally takes
30 to 45 business days for DHHS to review a licensure application.

If your license is approved by NC DHHS, you will be notified by the licensing social worker.
You will then enter into a six-month “Foster Parent Internship” program, where you will be
paired up with an established foster family for mentoring, and “on-the-job” training will begin.

Plan for the licensing process to take anywhere from 4-6 months, from training to placement.
