CARING for Children, Inc.
Project Home Base Community Support and Family Preservation Services

Project Home Base is an in-home program designed to work with at-risk children to strengthen and preserve the family unit and to facilitate community support services. Services include Intensive Family Preservation, Family Preservation, and Community Support/Case Management services. Families work with Community Support workers to stabilize the family environment, enhance parenting skills, prevent the need for out-of-home placements, and to coordinate community services. Services can occur in homes or in the community. The goal is to build on family strengths to change the systems necessary to help change the child's behavior.
Project Home Base staff are on call to families 24 hours a day,7 days a week, on an "as needed" basis. Staff work with families to develop trusting relationships with the families by encouraging the families to set their own goals; help families to be honestly self-evaluative; help families meet basic needs such as housing, food, childcare, and basic medical and social services; and, help families develop realistic expectations for their children.
Project Home Base offers a continuum of care at CARING for Children. The program has been successful in: 1). helping families as their children transition from a CARING program to home; 2) shortening the amount of time children spend in CARING's residential programs; and, 3) preventing the need for the residential placement altogether.
